Whose man is he, anyways?

Allah Rakha Rahman - the musical cyclone that hit Tamil Nadu coast first on 1992 is a world renowned musician with lots of achievements and accolades to his name.....accolades - his theatrical ventures like Bombay Dreams and LOTR-musical were huge draws in UK and Canada......he is fondly called as 'Mozart of Madras' in those circles.....from his music featuring in Zidane's ad to Moulin rouge director seeking ARR for his next movie, with he being the UN ambassador for Stop TB campaign and has composed a song for UN's millenium development goals......so much for his achievements.......

now, the big question is - who should take credit for this guy's achievements? whose guy is he? who should feel more proud of his achievements? well, the contendors are TamilNadu and rest of India......no, its not a Irani trophy.......i'm going to argue for the second team though i belong to both the teams, strangely......

When this guy created waves in 90's in tamil with his music, there was lots of opposition for him in the form of conservatives, senior actors, hostile media etc etc........while this was the case here, North India was slowly listening to his tamil songs.....which prompted big bollywood movie makers like Subash Ghai,RGV,Yash chopra to seek his touch in their movies......and when he finally arrived with Rangeela in Bollywood, all hell broke loose.....common man, media(large parts) in the North hailed him as one of the sensations and showered so much love and affection on him........he rose in a garangatun fashion becoming a Padmashree in 98' and winner of 4 National awards by 2002.......excpet for one, all other awards were judged by northindians......he is also winner of 18 filmfare awards now and was the blue-eyed boy of Times of India and Hindustan Times.............came the big break for him through bollywood director, shekhar kapur who introduced him to Andrew Llyod Webber, west end musicals and rest was history.......

now tamil media, like rats under car flashlights, left with no option but to embrace this world renowned genius.....but still the bias is very evident for everyone to see, with this world renowned musician being slotted under young, amateur composers like Yuvan and Harris by the people here.........they havent awarded him anything for the past 6 years.......while the north media goes gung-ho abt. his 3 songs being in contention for Oscar nominations, tamil media turned a blind eye for it......worst part is, he is considered a weakness in some tamil movie projects that he works in, whereas Bollywood considers him the 9th most powerful person in the industry......

well, so who should feel proud for this guy's rise in international arena and who are a integral part and driving force in his success?

"Live in" B'lore

hi all, i survive in b'lore, the mecca of software professionals, and i go out on weekends to nearby restaurants to have food......i used to notice, hordes of couples - young boys and girls, coming together and having dinner.......this was pretty normal i thought, until i saw the couple entering the same house after they finish their dinner.....hmmm, why are they living in the same house.........(count out the brother sister relationship, i can identify that, cos i have 1 sister and 8 cousin sisters).....

my friend later expalined about the "live in" funda to me.......oh my goodness, a boy and girl living in the same house before marriage and that too without parents......i'm not going to specualte on the things that they do but i'm sure they are not going to hold discussions to solve cauvery issue.......this is prevelant amongst college students who leave their hometowns to study here......study, good joke......i thought this must be a trend coming from north india and confined to it but i got the shock of my life time, when i saw a south indian couple living in this style......and the best part is when i asked my friend how they manage when their parents come to visit them - she said "if its the boy's parents, then the girl with him will shift to the neighbouring room and the boy in the neighbouring room will come to stay with this guy till parents leave".......believe this piece of info at your own risk but you got to believe the fact there is corrosion of our culture, tradition, values in advent of these live in relationships.........this live in relationships, if not nipped in the bud will shatter the age-old institution of marriage and make us a faceless culture.......part of the problem here is i'm jealous that i have to put up with a guy as my roommate.....just kidding, i really dont know,if the girl i'm going to marry tommorow has come out of a live in relationship or not........India is growing, in all sense......

Can you talk "well" ?

Flirting with girls and taking them out on a date is no easy joke...it may seem so...but it isnt...i'm telling you cos, i have asked around 40+ girls out on date in the past 7 years and have been successful only 6 times...the intent of asking a date is important says my friend (a girl)...i had a very good intent of developing that date into love...but it was never understood...well, failures make a man perfect they say...so heres my formula for a successful date request: (this is for the period where you get introduced to a girl and contemplating date)

1. Talk things that make sense to a girl - well i still dont know what is that, but i can tell u , what are nonsense to girls - Patriotism,Economics,Cricket,Politics,Technical aspects of Cinema etc...are big NO NO while asking a girl out on date...try to stay away from these topics and things similar to it...

2. Forget "I" and talk "you" - Girls get impressed when you let them talk abt themselves...dont talk abt urself and spoil the show...let them talk and keep on enquiring about their facts...this way you'll get to know their likes/dislikes/attitude etc...

3. Be patient - there's a saying in tamil which means - a patient man can rule the world...well, world is taken care by Bush uncle, so stop worrying and concentrate on the girl you want to take out...dont rush things...make her feel comfortable when she talks to you...dont try to over impress...do things subtly and wait for results...surely , a girl will notice good qualities in you...also, please dont show any sexual inclination, there are many girls who would run off if u display that.....forget date.....

so, guys try it out...well, my formula should work on girls from 15-25 yr old.....lesser the age of girl, more effective will be my formula...but i would strongly disrecommend " I LOVE YOU"...thats a dreaded word if you are unsure what you want from a girl...just take them out and have fun...get to know them, and then then---- look for next girl and ultimately marry the girl of ur mom's choice...

Cradle Calling

Can you recreate the days you saw?A decade back,
Pals circling everywhere, playing songs,
Do you wanna go back there??
Do you miss it, do you miss, cos you liked it,Cos you liked it, do you wanna go back there?
It was paradise, when you were young and lived the life for fun,
You were raised to see life as fun and a bed of roses to rest,
Your mother, her love,She feeds you; do you wanna go back there?
Your father, his fervor,He hails you, he holds you, do you wanna go back there?
Do you wanna go back there?Do you wanna go back there?

"No return" code - Software blues

Unix shell evolved in 1970 by Jason Bourne and the enhancement of it which was called BASH (Bourne again shell) seems to be the last well developed application. No application have been able to maintain the level of consistency this application has. Yes, i'm terming it as a application and not as a operating system, because this too was developed in C programming language.

I wonder why the "great" software engineers passing out from the best instituions across the world have never been able to beat Unix in this 37 years. Unix does give problems but its because of again "junk" applications that run on them and not by themselves. The applications which get developed today, bring a twin with them called "Return Code". Being from the systems side, i have literally married this word, because i live and interact with it more than i do with my family. Its just not one or two return codes but millions of them associated with each software. I'm not being harsh but the level of respect, perks that a software engineer gets over a systems administrator/infrastructure support executive is totally unjustified in view of such "flawed applications". i'm waiting for the day when we will see another Unix. Will that day come within my lifetime?
