Allah Rakha Rahman - the musical cyclone that hit Tamil Nadu coast first on 1992 is a world renowned musician with lots of achievements and accolades to his name.....accolades - his theatrical ventures like Bombay Dreams and LOTR-musical were huge draws in UK and Canada......he is fondly called as 'Mozart of Madras' in those circles.....from his music featuring in Zidane's ad to Moulin rouge director seeking ARR for his next movie, with he being the UN ambassador for Stop TB campaign and has composed a song for UN's millenium development goals......so much for his achievements.......
now, the big question is - who should take credit for this guy's achievements? whose guy is he? who should feel more proud of his achievements? well, the contendors are TamilNadu and rest of India......no, its not a Irani trophy.......i'm going to argue for the second team though i belong to both the teams, strangely......
When this guy created waves in 90's in tamil with his music, there was lots of opposition for him in the form of conservatives, senior actors, hostile media etc etc........while this was the case here, North India was slowly listening to his tamil songs.....which prompted big bollywood movie makers like Subash Ghai,RGV,Yash chopra to seek his touch in their movies......and when he finally arrived with Rangeela in Bollywood, all hell broke loose.....common man, media(large parts) in the North hailed him as one of the sensations and showered so much love and affection on him........he rose in a garangatun fashion becoming a Padmashree in 98' and winner of 4 National awards by 2002.......excpet for one, all other awards were judged by northindians......he is also winner of 18 filmfare awards now and was the blue-eyed boy of Times of India and Hindustan Times.............came the big break for him through bollywood director, shekhar kapur who introduced him to Andrew Llyod Webber, west end musicals and rest was history.......
now tamil media, like rats under car flashlights, left with no option but to embrace this world renowned genius.....but still the bias is very evident for everyone to see, with this world renowned musician being slotted under young, amateur composers like Yuvan and Harris by the people here.........they havent awarded him anything for the past 6 years.......while the north media goes gung-ho abt. his 3 songs being in contention for Oscar nominations, tamil media turned a blind eye for it......worst part is, he is considered a weakness in some tamil movie projects that he works in, whereas Bollywood considers him the 9th most powerful person in the industry......
well, so who should feel proud for this guy's rise in international arena and who are a integral part and driving force in his success?
